Sling TV vs YouTube TV

Change has come fast and hard for the entertainment industry, with streaming completely dominating the traditional cable marketplace. Streaming companies give consumers a great selection of the same programming they’ve loved for years – as well as great new shows, movies, and more! Streaming TV providers also give customers a power they never had with cable; the power of choice. With there being so many streaming providers to go with, you get to look at what types of television, sports, and movies that you really want to watch, and sign up for the one that best matches that! Most streaming providers also let you add additional channels and programs, so you can truly pay for exactly what you want, and nothing else!

Two of the biggest and best TV streaming platforms available today are Sling TV and YouTube TV. While they both operate in the same streaming industry, there are a fair amount of differences that set the two services apart. That’s why today, we wanted to give you a quick overview of which streaming platform fits your specific needs. We’ll cover everything from pricing and channel selection, to cost-per-channel, and additional features, so you can be certain you’re picking the right provider.

YouTube TV Pricing

There are quite a few different plans available on YouTube TV, but the Base Plan starts at $72.99/mo. That gets you 100+ live TV channels that you can use on 3 devices at once. YouTube TV also offers a Spanish Plan that includes all of their 30+ Spanish channels, if you’re only looking for Spanish language plans. They also have add-on packages focused around additional streaming devices, more channel selection, and streaming quality upgrades to 4K.

YouTube TV offers some solid features and a large channel selection on its Base Plan, but it comes at a more premium cost when compared to other streaming services.

Sling TV Pricing

Sling has taken a very straight-forward approach to its packages and pricing. Sling customers choose between two plans, Sling Orange or Sling Blue, both of which are just $40/month. Or, you can choose to bundle them both together, Sling Orange + Blue, which runs $55/mo. Sling Orange offers 32+ channels, while Blue includes 43+ channels. If you bundle both plans together, you get 51+ channels, all for just $55. Sling TV also offers a huge variety of Add-On Channels, Bundles, and more, so you can pay for exactly what you want.

Sling TV offers customers a simple way to stream all of the live television they desire, at a price you just can’t beat.

YouTube TV Channel Selection

YouTube advertises 100+ channels on their Base Plan, and includes everything from news networks such as ABC, CBS, and Fox, and sports entertainment on ESPN, NBA TV, and TNT, alongside popular stations like the Food Network, AMC, Cartoon Network, and more. Its selection is wide, and appeals to just about every viewer around – including families!

Beyond the Base Plan, YouTube TV also offers add-ons that give subscribers access to even more channels for an additional fee. Examples include Sports Plus ($11/month) for channels like beIN Sports, NFL Redzone, and the Tennis Channel, as well as Entertainment Plus ($30/month) for access to HBO, Showtime, and Starz. It’s great for being able to have all of your favorite shows, movies, and more in one convenient place, but its price can quickly add up if you want to add a few packages to your Base Plan.

Sling TV Channel Selection

Sling operates on a relatively similar format as well, except they offer 2 different “base plans” that you can choose to bundle together for maximum selection. Both packages offer some slightly different channels, which some overlap as well. Sling Blue is a great choice for live news lovers, as its 14 exclusive channels include MSNBC, Fox News, NFL Network, and more. On the flip side, Sling Orange offers great sports programming with exclusive channels such as  ESPN, ESPN 2, and MotorTrend. If you’re having a hard time choosing between the two plans, just combine them together for access to all of the channels.

Plus, if you want to add any additional channels or packages, Sling offers a wide variety for you to add. Sports fans will love the SportsExtra, with channels like SEC Network, ESPNU, ACCN, NBA TV, NHL Network, and more, while the KidsExtra will keep your whole family entertained with Disney Jr, Nicktoons, Boomerang, and much more. In addition, Sling offers tons of Latino & International packages that focus on programming in countries and areas such as Mexico, Spain, Central American, the Caribbean, and more. Sling’s add-ons start at just $3/month, so you can add a lot of extra channels you’d like without breaking the bank!

How Many Screens Can You Use At Once?

A huge sticking point for many streaming services is the amount of devices you can stream on at once. With the YouTube Base Plan, you’re allowed to watch on three devices at once – including TVs, laptops, and mobile devices. However, you can pay a premium fee to upgrade to unlimited devices.

With Sling TV Blue, you can watch all your favorite live TV on 3 devices at a time, while Sling Orange offers customers 1 device at time. However, if you choose the Sling Orange + Blue package, you can stream on 4 devices at once; which is perfect for families who love to watch on TVs, laptops, mobile devices, and more!

Which Service Offers The Best Features?

Another huge component of finding the right TV streaming service for you, are the included features. Both YouTube TV and Sling TV offer impressive services that provide tons of extra value for customers, so it’s all about deciding what’s right for you! When it comes to YouTube TV, they offer some compelling features including unlimited DVR recording space; although it will remove the programming after 9 months. YouTube TV also offers a mobile app that allows users to watch live TV wherever they go, as well as manage their library and DVR recording!

On the Sling TV side, they provide a huge amount of features including 50 hours of DVR recording, a robust mobile app, and more! Sling also has a “Catch-Up TV” feature that allows customers to watch live programs at any point they want, up to eight days after it originally aired. Sling seemingly goes out of their way to make sure their customers can watch TV the way they want, and its features reflect that mission!
